With the Angels
HORSE PRAYER
Don't cry for the horses, that life has set free - A million white horses forever to be.
Don't cry for the horses, now in God's hands - As they dance and they prance to a heavenly band
They were ours as a gift, but never to keep - As they close their eyes , forever to sleep
Their spirits unbound, on silver wings they fly - A million white horses, against the blue sky
Look up into heaven, you'll see them above - The horses we lost, the horses we loved
Manes and tails flowing, they gallop through time - They were never yours, they were never mine
Don't cry for the horses, they will be back someday - When our time has come,
They will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker, close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses - Love the ones that are here.

DOLLY
Hello my name is Dolly. I am a black Percheron mare. I have a good-natured temperament and am consider part of the heavy horse breed - the draft horse. I am old, very old, and am so glad to be at Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue. Brenda says I can stay until my time comes. My age is 29 years old which means I may have only a few years left.
My story is long due to my age and not a pleasant one. The last owner I had was very neglectful of me and my friends. I was in a herd with 14 other horses and we were starving. It is very difficult to look around at your friends and see them in distress; searching and searching for something to eat. In my herd of friends there were many who had foals that did not live; the mothers just did not have the health to help their babies.
When Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue found and saved me my body was covered with rain rot and a fungus that needed immediate attention. My belly was filled with worms, my feet were curled up, cracked and sore and my body ached from my arthritis. I was so thankful to Whispering Hearts Horse rescue because I finally was given something to eat; I was so very hungry. I was very emaciated and Brenda was very worried about me. Brenda was told that I may be in foal, as I have been bred and bred for many years, my body is tired and thankfully after she had the doctor check my insides, I was not expecting a baby because that would have been very dangerous for me at my age.
I have had many foals in my life time, even at the age of 27 when my last baby was born. Many of my babies were in the herd when I was saved and some were young mothers with babies of their own and we were all neglected and starving! The bad part of my life is over now and I will live in peace until the end of my days at Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue. I have great food to eat and it is always in abundance. I have a blanket to keep me warm so that my arthritis does not hurt as much. My skin is no longer itchy and sore and my belly has no more worms. I have my friends and my grown babies around me that now are all warm, eating, healthy and doing extremely well; that makes me so happy! Thank you Brenda for taking away the worry I have carried for so long and allowing me a wonderful place to enjoy for the last of my days while knowing that I am loved.
DEAR DOLLY WAS PEACEFULLY LAID TO REST WITH DIGNITY AT THE RESCUE, SHE WILL BE MISSED DEARLY. DOLLY TOUCHED MANY LIVES. REST IN PEACE DEAR SWEET GIRL, YOU DESERVE IT.
